How to teach my great dane not to jump up?

My great dane is around a year old now. I bought her from a family who never took the time to socialize her or train her. I’ve taught her sit and stay. But when she is exited she jumps up and I’m totaly not for that behavior does anybody have any tips?

I have heard that when they jump they are trying to get to your face so turn around & give them your back & they will stop. (You can also say 'down' or 'no' when you do this.)
Keep doing this & eventually she should get it. My friends doberman used to jump on me, I did this turning away method & he stopped.
Good Luck!

well what u should do is when she jumps on u turn away.that way she will know not to do that and then she should understand not to jump soon

Mine does that too sometimes, the best I have found is when she gets too aggressive with her play is to give one warning (because she's deaf I have a hand signal) then if she doesn't respond I knee her when she lunges again and turn away and dont look at her. If she does calm down give good response (not enough to get her excited again) but a petting or a toy

We went through the same thing with my younger Rotti. We ended up having to higher a private trainer to get it to stop.

The trainer would have him on the leash and ask people to come to the door and ring the bell or knock and when the dog would leap he would yank the leash and sternly tell the dog NO and Sit. He eventually understood after so many times of being told No he shouldn’t do it and stopped.

Know when someone comes to the door he sits at the door and will not move till they tell him hello.

Buy an adjustable training collar system. U hold a controller, the collar fits around her neck. When she does anything U want her not to do U press a button & the collar makes a sound. If no response count one two and on two push a second button which gives a small shock. She will learn that the sound will be followed by the shock and our dog never needed the shock after only two. The adjustment was set to two out of ten strengths of shock. I tried the shock myself and it is a surprise with no hurt

first of all.. she is still young enough so u can still socilize her. take her to the dog park

second… to stop the jumping.. when she does it. ignore her. turn ur back to her and walk away. keep doing this and make everyone in ur family do it also. great danes are big dogs so u dont want her jumping on a small child. when she stops jumping… count to 10 then give her a treat. this shows her that jumping=ignore and no jumping=treat
