i take him to the vet. he says it is not a big problem. he gives me some calcium sumplements and royal canin puppy food.please tell me that the vet. is right or not.
please give me some good advises. help me to remove this problem. he walk only for two three minutes and then he fell down. his back legs are good .
The vet is specially trained, so the vet would be right. That sounds right to me! Minimize activity, and make sure he rests a lot!

If he is no better why not get a second opinion sounds a little bit more serious than lack of calcium. but I guess a vet should know. Depends how much you trust the vets opinion.

It doesn't sound like it's not a big problem. However, we certainly cannot tell you over the internet if the vet is right or not. You must seek a second opinion from another vet if you aren't certain of this vet's diagnosis. I think this vet has told you the dog has a calcium deficiency that has caused his bones not to form properly, which can happen in giant breeds of dog.
How long has this problem been going on for and how long has he been on the supplements and new food? You have to go back to the vet or seek a second opinion if the problem is not resolving.

some vets do not look at the problem as a whole, they look at certain areas. did he take xrays?
i would take him to an animal hospital, book a visit o its not an emergency, and ask them what they think. becauseall vets have certain views and opinions. if you dog isnt getting better, you should get a second opinion.
relation to human:
my friend went to disney and tripped. she couldnt walk on her leg. the disney emergency crew took her to the on disney hospital. they checked her leg (no xrays) and said she was fine and could walk. she tried to walk and fell. they said "fine we will give you a wheelchair for the day" when they got back from disney, they took her to the hospital one mroe time because her leg still hurt her and she still couldnt walk. they took xrays and it turned out she broke it in one place, and sprained it in 2 places.
i would get a second opinion:)

hope i helped:)
It sounds kind of like wobblers. Basically, its a combined genetic and nutritional problem found in Great Danes. Calcium will help, as well as a new/better dog food. Time will have to play its course though.
The vet sounds correct but if you're not sure you can always take him to a different vet for a second opinion.

I really have no Idea, But I think it is the wobblers. Great Danes can Easily get the Wobblers – Especially if they aren't eating correctly. To learn more about the wobblers, visit

and after,

But the Royal Canin Puppy Food – NOOO!
1. No Puppy Food
2. 32% Protein and they are only supposed to have between
21-23% Protein!
3. 14% Fat and they should have 12% Fat.
BAD FOOD! Use Canidae or Eagle Pack.

Without knowing how old the puppy is this is tough. There are several directions to look in.
First if the pup was examined by a vet the most likely cause is just a lack of coordination in the puppy. With large breeds they tend to grow fast and as a result may "trip" over their own feet. They grow out of it, but it may happen several times during their development.
The other potential problem is some genetic disease. These usually don't show up until around 6 months, a little before or after. They could show up at any time after that.
If you got the pup directly from a breeder, call the breeder and get their recommendations. If possible take the dog to the breeder and have them take a look at it. If you don't know the breeder contact the local kennel club and see if there are Dane breeders or a rescue in your area. Call them and ask for help. Most dog people are willing to help if you ask.

Holy crap. What school did this vet graduate from? Moron school??? Him walking for 3 mins then falling on his face isn't a big deal? You need to find a vet who knows danes ASAP and not go back to this clown. NEVER give a dane calcium supplements! NEVER give a dane pup puppy food! Of any brand.
Sorry, I'm not yelling at you, but I'm astounded at the vet's stupidity.
You didn't say how old this dog is. I'm betting it's a puppy under 8 months old, and this is a recent problem. Sound like he's got either HOD, PANO, or OCD.
Even a vet who is familiar with danes may have a hard time telling which it is. Get to an orthopedic vet ASAP. They may need x-rays to know for sure which bone growth issue he's got. All 3 problems are identifiable by x-ray if the vet knows what he's looking for.
OCD- this is a cartiledge growth problem. Usually (but not always) in the shoulders. Makes walking very painful, gets worse after excercise.
HOD- think of it like this, the pup's leg fractures, then heals, then fractures, then heals, etc. It's all down in the same area. Some dogs can't walk for months if it's serious enough.
Pano – this is a problem with the bone marrow's growth. It's identified by lameness which moves around from one leg to the other.
The first thing you need to do TODAY is get this pup off the crap food, and onto an excellent quality food. Nothing you see in a grocery store or Walmart is a good quality food. I'm not positive, but I think Royal Canin is not on the "good list".
Good foods include Eagle Pack Natural, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul- Adult, Canidea- ALS, and Innova. Try to find a pet store in your area that carries one of these. Or you can order off their web sites, but will have to pay shipping. Last choice would be to find a food with a similar ingrediant list and nutrition info to these.
Here's an example of the Ch Soup:
Crude Protein 24.0% Minimum
Crude Fat 14.0% Minimum
Calorie Content: 336 kcal/cup
Ingredients
Chicken, turkey, chicken meal, ocean fish meal, cracked pearled barley, whole grain brown rice, oatmeal, millet, white rice, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), potatoes, egg product, tomato pomace, duck, salmon,
You want a food with under 25% protein, under 15% fat. Try to find a food where the first 3-4 ingrediants are not corn, rice, wheat, etc. Dogs can't digest those and you'll end up picking it up in the yard later.
You want a mid-calorie diet. Around 350 per cup is good. Too many calories can lead to HOD.
You need to crate rest this pup asap (no more walks for the time being), and get yourself to a different vet.
Also, check out http://www.greatdanelady.com for lots more info on dane nutrition and the problems they can have. My dane was totally lame for 2 days at 9 weeks b/c of the crap food the breeder had him on plus puppy shots. I followed the GDL's nutrition plan, and he was back on his feet within 24 hours.
Good luck…
PS- This does NOT sound like Wobblers. Wobblers is a neurological problem which makes him look "wobbly". It especially affects the back legs – dogs with this disease will take off-center, funny looking steps. You said his back legs are fine so I doubt this is it, but you still need an ortho exam ASAP.

Listen to LotsADogs!!!!! This vet is a joke!! Never give a Dane puppy puppy food and NEVER give a Dane puppy Calcium supplements. This vet couldn't be more wrong if he/she tried.
This sounds more like HOD to me. Are the Danes front legs "knuckling" over or bowed? These are common symptoms of HOD. You may also want to check out http://www.greatdanelady.com. She has tons of pictures and info. on this site that may help you figure out what is wrong with your Dane. But please, find a different vet!!!
