Can anyone tell me where there may be a Great Dane breeder in Vermont or in a nearby state? Every site I have looked at is really high maintenance…It's confusing…any ideas would be helpful, thanks!
Obviously going to buying a dog, I understand the amount of hard work and training it takes. I was no referring to the animal themselves, just the websites…read the question.

Adoption fees are not expensive

check out http://www.breeders.net you can search by state

Visit the GD breed link provided on the AKC website. They should be able to point you in the direction of a responsible breeder in your state. If you aren't prepared to invest lots of money in a genetically screened pup perhaps you can find and contact a local breed rescue.

I'm not sure what you mean by every site you go to is high maintenance. Dogs take alot of time and energy to raise especially a good one. Go the AKC.org and look up great danes they will tell you what is all involved with owning one.

Have you checked with

she may be able to put you in touch with someone in your area. Also has a list of other breeders on her website

This is the search result from "great dane rescues vermont" There are TONS of links on this page to help you find rescues in your area. And don't worry if you want a puppy…rescues usually have them too.
You have some other good answers, such as the AKC site. Remember though, Danes are high maintance dogs (well, what dog isn't?) They are prone to serious health problems and caring for one will cost a small fortune.

Go to the GDCA site http://www.gdca.org to find a listing of responsible, ethical breeders. Also go to the Great Dane Club Of New England site and contact them for a listing of responsible, ethical breeders http://www.gdcne.org
Make sure to not buy a Dane puppy from a breeder who breeds under the age of 2 years, doesn't do genetic health testing (OFA/PennHip, CERF, etc)…
Read the breeder code of ethics…it will tell you what you need to be looking for in a breeder.
I also suggest getting the book The Great Dane Model of Nobility by Jill Swedlow and joining some of the great Dane groups

Buying a puppy especially a Dane puppy from a web site is not a good idea..you need to be very careful on selecting a breeder. Do NOT buy a puppy from a classified ad!!

own/show Great Danes for over 25 years
Your best source for a breeder is the Great Dane Club of America's site. http://www.gdca.org
There you can find breeders in your area who subscribe to the code of ethics of the GDCA.
Classifieds, internet dog selling sites and the like are not good sources for good breeders. Make sure that the sire and dam are properly health tested.
There is a load of information on the GDCA site.
The book Great Dane Model of Nobility is out of print. However, it is available for free on the net at the following link:

Good luck in your search
